About Tim Tim graduated from Hillsdale College in 1994 with a major in English and minor in communications on his way to his first job as a beat reporter with the Hillsdale Daily News, Hillsdale. "I didn't get paid a lot for that first job, but what lured me to the position was the amount of writing they needed," he said. "It gave me a chance to hone my skills." At the Daily News, he came up with his first column, Timisms, about the daily musings in his life. After working his way up the newsroom ladder, Tim eventually left the Daily News, with several Michigan Press Association awards under his belt, and took the job as a managing editor at the Blissfield Advance, Blissfield. "That was an exciting time," he said. "Running the editorial aspects of a small weekly was challenging." Timisms went with him in the move and to this day still runs in the paper. Married in 1997 to his wife, Amy, he left Blissfield and moved to Lansing and worked as the editor of Michigan Banker Magazine before landing his current position as the director of publications at the Small Business Association of Michigan. At SBAM, he is in charge of the association's several publications, having to write many of them by himself, as well as another column, No Experience Necessary, that is syndicated in 15 Michigan newspapers. Since the move, he's branched out into fiction. Many of his children's stories are inspired by his daughter, Autumn, and feature heroines. His first book, Of Purple and Pig Hooves, was published by an online publisher, London Circle Publishing. It's since been picked up by Munchweiler Press. Now titled Shuck-Shuck and the Princess of Namssik, it's scheduled for a 2002 release. "Writing is a release for me," he said. "The first book I wrote for Autumn, Waiting for the Train, is a family classic in our house and brings a smile to my daughter's face every time it's read. It's that kind of response that keeps me at the keyboard." Besides writing, Tim enjoys playing basketball (he was a four-year starter at Hillsdale College), golf, video games and chess when he can find someone to push the pawns with him.
